The main spokesman for the electricity distribution company, Godwin Idemudia, in a statement, regretted the attack on Sanmi Mathew Akanni, driver of the Ikate area team under his Orile district on November 29, 2022.
Idemudia stated that Akanni was assaulted by Mr. Ayomide Oyebanjo after an illegal connection was discovered. He said: “While in the process of disconnecting the illegal connection, Oyebanjo and the driver broke bottles, Akanni was stabbed multiple times. We have pictorial evidence to prove this.
“The case was immediately denounced at the Itire Police Station by the company’s District Legal Officer and the culprit was arrested. He was charged in court on Wednesday, November 30, denied bail, and detained at the Ikoyi Correctional Center. Meanwhile, Akanni is admitted and receiving treatment at a hospital in Lagos.”
Idemudia expressed his dissatisfaction with these inhumane acts, stating that the company has a zero-tolerance policy for assaults and will do everything possible under the law to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.
He noted that the company is currently implementing initiatives to reduce the number of assaults on staff and encouraged customers to help the company in its fight against assaults and other illegal activities.
