Goatfell, Arran
Hill walking is in Scotland’s DNA and an activity many Scots wouldn’t pass a weekend without. On Arran, the must-do climb is Goatfell, an 874-metre peak that is the island’s highest, and affords panoramic views as well as the chance to spot buzzards and golden eagles. In winter, the trek is one for experienced and well-equipped walkers, as wind and snow can make it tricky. If something less strenuous is more your thing, you can get great views of Goatfell by taking a stroll along the Glen Rosa circuit or the Arran Coastal Way.
